In California, window tint laws are designed to balance driver visibility with personal comfort and vehicle aesthetics. The front windshield may only have non-reflective tint on the top 4 inches, while front side windows must allow at least 70% light transmission, limiting aftermarket tint darkness. Rear side and rear windows can have any darkness level, provided the vehicle has dual side mirrors. Red, amber, or blue tints are prohibited, and reflective or mirrored tints are not allowed on any windows. A manufacturer's compliance label is required on tinted windows, and medical exemptions for darker tints are available with proper documentation. Violations may lead to fines or fix-it tickets.
